Arkansas State Society

The Arkansas State Society is a social group of Arkansans who are living in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Members include the Congressional delegation and their staffs, active and retired military, lobbyists, federal agency and professional association staffers, attorneys, college students, and many other Arkansans who have settled here.

We meet four to six times a year. In April, we get together for a reception to honor our Arkansas Cherry Blossom Princess. We take field trips to Baltimore to see the Orioles play, to Laurel for the horse races and to the Kennedy Center for musical productions. We also join the D.C. University of Arkansas Alumni Chapter for Razorback basketball and football watch parties.

The largest event each year is our annual "Arkansas Catfish Fry" in the fall. We bring a mobile kitchen from Arkansas, full of catfish, hush puppies, cole slaw, french fries, and a chef that knows how to cook it all "just like we like it."

Art shows, book signing parties and a visit to the White House at Christmas have also been arranged in recent years. We publish a membership directory twice a year (for distribution at the Cherry Blossom Princess reception and at the Catfish Fry).
